Justin Auciello

Urban Planner. Journalist. New Media Consultant.

I am the founder of Jersey Shore Hurricane News, a Facebook-based media outlet. A bottom-up, two-way news outlet, JSHN is news for the people, by the people. JSHN covers weather emergencies, major breaking news, traffic incidents, and Silver/Amber Alerts. JSHN is also a community resource (events, missing dogs, etc). Created on August 23, 2011, the outlet, which provided Hurricane Irene information before, during, and after the storm, garnered over 26,000 followers and 28,000,000 page views by August 28, 2011.

I have been employed by the Cofone Consulting Group, LLC since January 2011, where I am an Associate and serve as the Director of Technology. I am reponsible for the following planning tasks: master planning, redevelopment investigations/plans, zoning analysis, urban design, affordable housing plans, impact analysis, and expert testimony delivery. I undertake due diligence and provide analysis and public testimony on projects ranging from simple homeowner variance requests to complicated, high profile plans.

I write about land use planning issues and emerging technologies that are changing how we use our urban spaces at The New Wave Planner.

I am the Vice President of Public Relations for The New Jersey Chapter of the American Planning Association. Among other responsibilities, I maintain the Chapter's Twitter and Facebook feeds.

I also maintain a personal micro-blog, dubbed The Scratchpad, where I curate intriguing content and share a wide variety of self-produced multimedia content.
